The Role of Partnerships in Building Climate Resilience

One of the key takeaways from our previous discussion on resilience was the critical role of continuous learning in strengthening adaptive systems. Much of this learning happens through partnerships - whether with communities, Indigenous organizations, or other stakeholders - enabling the exchange of diverse knowledge systems, shared resources, and co-created strategies to address climate challenges.

A great example is the co-management of the Great Bear Rainforest in British Columbia , where Indigenous leadership and government collaboration have enhanced biodiversity protection and long-term resilience.

Beyond addressing immediate climate risks, partnerships strengthen local capacity by providing training, resources, and long-term knowledge exchange, ensuring adaptation efforts are sustainable over time.

In your experience:

  • How have partnerships with community groups, Indigenous organizations, or other stakeholders strengthened the resilience of your adaptation projects?
  • What approaches have you found most effective in building and sustaining these partnerships?
  • If you haven’t worked with such partnerships yet, how do you think they could enhance your efforts?
